Ah, the Airone.
Ramón Franco, brother of Francisco Franco and a pioneer of transatlantic flight (with a Dornier J “Wal”,
Plus Ultra)
died during a bombing mission with his
Z.506.
He was flying on Franco’s side, but it is a well-known fact that his sympathies were not with the Nationalist cause. Although atrocious weather conditions were the likely cause, there were rumours that there had been foul play: some of Franco’s rivals in his own camp perished also in aircraft crashes.
